I opened the box containing Elizabeth (for DD's birthday) to make sure she arrived in good order. Then I decided to read the book that came with her, Very Funny Elizabeth! What a great book. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it yet but Valerie Tripp did a tremendous job. It really made Elizabeth come alive for me. It might well be Valerie Tripp's best book yet!

I finally finished reading it, too, and I liked it. I'm a bad critic for AG books, though, as well as most any book, because I'm a ****er for them! I think VFE was better than Nellie's Promise in a way, but not better than Felicity's books.

    Still, everyone should read it...

I love a good story, especially the AG kind. I will probably read Elizabeth's book someday soon, I just hope that I won't want the doll after reading it. Elizabeth looks so cute in her tea dress.

I'm sorry to have to disagree. I liked VFE as a story, but it didn't seem too historically accurate to me. I thought the ending was a little too happy, considering the circumstances. Without giving away anything for those who haven't read it, all I can say is that I bet most parents today wouldn't be nearly so nice about the ending situation as Annabelle's were, and think of how the times have changed!

VFE was pleasant to read but it did not answer any questions or deal with any serious topics. We still do not know if Elizabeth and family will stay in this country once the war begins. I would have preferred a book that took place after changes and that answered some questions.
